Shipping to Canada and Mexico

How do I ship products to customers in Canada and Mexico?
You can ship products to the customers in Canada and Mexico on your own or you can use Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA). In the section below, we cover the technical considerations of fulfilling orders on your own and using FBA, so you can plan a fulfillment strategy that is best for your business.

Fulfilling orders on your own
  • Shipping to Canada: All shipments to Canada are required to use Delivered Duty Paid (DDP) shipping. To assist you with the process, Amazon has preferred shippers – listed below. The shippers below will walk you through the duty pre-paid requirements and provide you with discounted international rates not available to people outside this program. Some shippers may require you to register for Canadian Business Number (BN) and Non-Resident Importer (NRI) and are able to assist you with that process, DHL and APC do not have those requirements. DHL offers a Power of attorney to act as your customs broker and waive off the NRI requirement. To get started, click on the links below and fill out your contact information. You will be contacted within 24 hours and receive the benefits of being an Amazon.ca seller. FedEx Trade Networks, APC Logistics, DHL to Canada
  • Shipping to Mexico: To make it convenient for our US artisans to ship products to Mexico, Amazon's integrated 1-click Buy Shipping Services tool in Seller Central allows artisans to buy pre-negotiated DHL labels. Fulfillment By Amazon
To use FBA in Canada and Mexico, you will need to ship your products to Amazon fulfillment center (FC) in the destination country. All shipments are required to use Delivered Duty Paid (DDP) shipping. Amazon will not be responsible for or collect any duties, taxes or shipping costs associated with FBA inventory.
  • Shipping to Amazon FC in Canada: Amazon preferred shippers (listed below) will walk you through the DDP requirements and help you move your inventory to Amazon FC in Canada. Some shippers may require you to register for Canadian Business Number* (BN) and Non-Resident Importer (NRI) and will assist you with that process.FedEx Trade Networks, APC Logistics, DHL to Canada
*If you wish to register for your Business Number on your own you can do so via the Canada Revenue Agencies online portal here.
  • Shipping to Amazon FC in Mexico: To ship your products to Amazon FC in Mexico, you need to export your products from the US and import them into the destination country (Mexico). You will act as the exporter of record in the US and the importer of record in Mexico. You have two options for importing goods into Mexico: (i) Engaging a third party authorized to import into Mexico, or (ii) Incorporating and registering before tax authorities a local Mexican entity to act as the importer. In each case, the party acting as the importer must have an RFC (Registro Federal de Contribuyentes, equivalent of tax number). Because each situation is different, you should consult with a customs broker/freight forwarder, legal adviser, or both to identify a solution most appropriate to your business.

How do I handle Customer returns?
When you sell in an Amazon Marketplace, you are required to provide Customer support in the local language of the Marketplace. When fulfilling items on your own, you must either (i) provide Customers with a local return address within the country of their Amazon Marketplace website or (ii) offer them free shipment for returns to your US address. When you choose Fulfillment by Amazon, Amazon will handle local returns on your behalf for FBA orders in that marketplace, so you don't have to worry about providing a local return address.

How do I handle taxes and regulations?
If you sell in Canada or Mexico, you are responsible for paying any destination duties, taxes, and Customs clearance fees before your product can be sold to residents of that country or stored in an Amazon fulfillment center.
It’s recommended that you consider following costs and their impact on profitability while deciding the price for your product listings:
  • Taxes and duties. Learn more about taxes and duties in Canada here and Mexico here.
  • Shipping costs when you are shipping directly to customers in Canada and Mexico.
  • International return shipping costs, if you are fulfilling orders yourself
  • Shipping costs to send your inventory to fulfillment centers in Canada and Mexico when you are using Fulfillment by Amazon.
How do I handle payments for global accounts?
There are several ways you can set up your account to get paid. You can use a bank account in the Marketplace where you want to list or you can use Amazon Currency Converter for Sellers to get paid by your local bank in your local currency.  Learn more about Payments for Global Accounts
