Handmade Christmas Guide Part 2:
Five Tips to Increase Discoverability



We’ve picked our top five ways to improve discoverability. Take a look at your Titles, Keywords, and Occasion Types prior to the Christmas season, and make sure they’re in tip-top shape to help customers search and find your one of a kind items!

 

  1. Review Titles to help customers find your products: Titles should be clear and succinct, focusing on short, simple words that describe the product. We recommend no more than 50 characters, use enough descriptive words to provide a complete idea of the product. For example, a well-optimized title for search is “Personalised brown ceramic 12oz coffee mug.” It covers all the product specifics in as few words as possible without going into the nitty-gritty detail.
     


  2. Optimize Keywords to improve search results: Keywords are essential search terms that help customers locate your products on Handmade. Keywords should focus on subjects closely related to your product. Amazon automatically includes an item’s title and brand in the search index, so don’t use those here. Also, Amazon search accounts for common misspellings and variations in pluralization, capitalization and spacing, so don’t write out all possible permutations. You can updated your keywords by going to the Seller Central Inventory tab > Edit > Additional Info link. Scroll to the field titled Search Terms.
     


  3. Update your Featured Products: In your Artisan Profile, you can update your top Featured Products. The default is your top 4 products, however, you can select your own with a custom title, such as “Top Christmas Gifts”, “Christmas Gifts for Kids” or “Christmas Decoration Favorites”.
     


  4. Add Occasion type to your items: Occasion Types allow you to add a specific occasion or theme to your product (like Weddings or Birthdays). Customers can browse by Occasion Type on our Handmade pages, so it improves discoverability for products relevant to events. Go to the Seller Central Inventory tab, select Edit, then click Additional Info link.
